• October to April follow the 1970s weather record of Rumford, Maine (NOAA station Rumford 1 SSE, winters 1970-71 to 1979-80); May to September keep the map's own weather.
• Real storm counts and sizes: about five storms and 24 inches of snow in each of December and January, about 97 inches a season, plus winter thaws and rain.
• Snow builds through December, lies all winter, settles, thins in March and melts out in April, instead of the whole map clearing at 5 C.

A tree nursery that grows saplings from water (and optionally liquid fertilizer), plus a buyer for surplus sapling pallets.

• Spruce Hill Tree Nursery, $110,000: two hoop houses, container benches, hardening racks and a fertigation tank.
• 200 l of water makes 20 saplings; 200 l plus 4 l of liquid fertilizer makes 25; 1.25 cycles an hour (25 to 31 saplings per game hour).
• Saplings come out on pallets of 20 using the game's own sapling fill type, so the base-game tree planter takes them; each pallet is one random tree type (pine, spruce, birch, poplar, oak, maple, elm or hickory).

After a winter snowstorm on Elmcreek, the town offers paid contracts in the normal contracts menu to plow its seven road routes.

• When a storm that brought at least 4 cm of new snow ends, each of the seven town routes with snow on it is offered as a contract (29 km of lanes in all); untaken offers expire 12 game hours after the storm.
• Accept a contract, mount any snow plow from the shop on a tractor or truck, and drive the route with the blade down; every 10 m of lane counts.
• Pay: $250 per lane-km plowed, plus $175 per lane-km salted with a switched-on salt spreader; +25 % if the route is done within 4 game hours of the storm, falling to 0 % at the 12-hour deadline.
• The contract completes at 95 % of the route; progress (lane-km plowed, salted, current bonus) shows with the contract in the contracts menu.

A firewood business: process logs into firewood with the FP-60, season or kiln-dry it, bundle it, and sell it by the cord.

• Dirigo FP-60 firewood processor ($225,000), as a placeable and as a towable machine worked from its cab: 60 in circular saw, 42 t splitter; 100 l of log makes 205 l of loose green firewood at 6 cords an hour.
• Woodshed ($18,000) seasons green wood slowly; the 12-cord kiln ($48,000) dries it in a day, fired with your own wood chips or diesel; the bundling shed ($9,500) wraps kiln-dried wood into bundles, 64 to a cage pallet.
